Exhibit of the Descent Module of the Photographic reconnaissance earth sattelite “Cosmos-2083”

Info

EXHIBIT OF THE DESCENT MODULE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHIC RECONNAISSANCE SPACECRAFT “COSMOS-2083”. INDEX 17F116 (ORIGINAL LAUNCH DATE 19.06.90. LANDING DATE 03.07.90)

Today this exhibit is the only in the world, has a Certificate No1 and constitutes a descent module of the military satellite “COSMOS-2083#. In 1993 the Central specialized design bureau KB “PHOTON” together with the Cosmonautics Association of Russia (Joint-Stock company MASCO Ltd) has received a permission to restore the descent module to its original form and use it as an exhibit.

One of such spacecrafts is the proposed exhibit of the descent module of the photo reconnaissance satellite “COSMOS-2083”, index 17F116 (the original. Launch date 19.06.90. Landing date 03.07.90). Into the equipment complex of this spacecraft two photographic cameras “Zhemchug-9R” are included. The optical axes of these cameras are aligned according to the “fan” scheme perpendicularly to the flight direction at the angle of 16 deg. To each other and during – the survey they deflect from the local vertical by 8 deg. The “fan”-shaped arrangement of optical axes provides the widening of the swath width. In order to obtain the stereoscopic effect it is necessary to make the survey with overlapping 60%. The survey is implemented with usage of double-layer, colour spectrozonal films which are sensitized in spectral band 570-680 and 680-810 nm. The resolution of obtained images is less than 2m.

PURPOSE COMPOSITION

The spececraft “COSMOS-2083”, index 17F116 is dedicated to observe the given regions of the Earth surface in the modes of careful and superficial observation from the altitude of 250-400 km.

The spacecraft is launced by the launch-vehicle “SOYUZ 11A511U”.

The spacecraft has following characteristics:

  • mass of the spacecraft completely assembeled and fueled – 6000 kg

  • mass of completely assembled decent module – 2500 kg

  • maximum diameter of the descent module – 2000 mm

  • maximum length of the descent module – 7000 mm

  • active life of the spacecraft – 15 days

The spacecraft consists structurally of the following major parts:

  • descent module

  • instrumentation – accessory bays

  • maximum diameter of the descent module

  • maximum length of the descent module

The descent module is designedfor displacement of special photographic equiptment, providing the conditions of its normal functioning and for delivering the information obtained with the help of this equiptment.

The instrumentation and accessory bay serves for installing inside and outside of it the equiptment, the systems of flight and descent module landing.

Before slowing down the decent module the powder retrorocket generates the thurst pulse which reduces the flight speed of the spacecraft. The powder retrorocket is composed of five rocket engines – one active and four steerable. All five engines are activated simutaneously.
